Artistic heritage for a good cause

The family of Peter Prohaska is donating the paintings from his estate to the Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland Children's Cancer Help.

The works from the estate will be available for purchase as part of an exhibition on the premises of the Children's Cancer Foundation this year. All proceeds will benefit children with cancer and their families. We will announce the information about the exhibition on all our channels.

We extend our condolences to the family of Peter Prohaska for their loss and thank them for this donation!

A letter from the family about Peter Prohaska:

Our father, a trained tailor, always had a charitable streak. In the 1960s, the idea was born to tailor winter coats for children in need. A friend provided him with the material and he immediately set to work. On the street, they handed the children's coats to the baffled parents and disappeared as quickly as they had come.

The action did not go unnoticed. Rosemarie Isopp, the host of the then-famous radio show „Autofahrer unterwegs,“ found out about it. And so the two ended up as guests in the studio under the name XY. Perhaps one or the other might still remember this show.

Our father was also very artistically talented. In his youth he dedicated his leisure time to drawing, later followed by watercolors, and finally oil paintings became his passion. Painting also helped him through many blows of fate (the death of his beloved wife, our mother, whom he cared for until the end, his grandson Thomas, his son-in-law Peter,...).

After his death, he left us several paintings, based on his own ideas as well as reproductions by other artists. For us daughters (there are four of us), it has become difficult to find space for his works in our homes, as he showered us with gifts of his artwork for every occasion during his lifetime.

Therefore, we have decided to donate the remaining paintings to a good cause and hand them over to your organization. That is certainly in keeping with our father's wishes.
